EV Power Channel

EV Power Channel

Creating EV charge routes for roadsides

The ACO EV Power Channel provides a structured solution for managing EV charging cables across public footways, supporting safe, compliant residential on-street charging. Designed for installation within the public realm, the system combines a durable polymer concrete channel with connectable recycled rubber covers and compatible kerb units to suit common UK profiles.

Engineered for long-term performance in pedestrian environments, the system is tested to a equivalent load class of B 125. The EV Power Channel supports local authority cross-pavement charging initiatives by helping reduce trip risk while maintaining a flush, accessible surface finish.

Skid and Slip

The ACO EV Power Channel is designed to help maintain safe pedestrian access where EV charging cables cross the pavement. The cover surface incorporates engineered up-stands that improve grip underfoot, helping to reduce the risk of slips and trips, particularly in wet conditions.

Tested in accordance with BS EN 16165:2021 guidance, the channel delivers excellent skid and slip performance. Importantly, it has been assessed across three directions of travel – perpendicular, longitudinal and diagonal – ensuring reliable traction regardless of how pedestrians approach or cross the channel.

Ease of Installation

ACO’s installation detail incorporate quick set mortar, and cold-lay asphalt. There is no complicated materials stipulated, or detailed installation requirements, making compliant/effective installation much simpler for all contractors to install.

EV Ease of Install
EV Kerb Finish

Kerb Finish

ACO’s channel design is the only product on the UK market which has addressed the issue of re-instating the kerb profile. Two profiles are available, half battered and bull nose. They can be bought as a pair and interchanged at either the road-side or resident side of the install depending on the profile required. The half batter and bull nose kerb units specifically reinforce/protect the end of the channel at the kerb line, ensuring longer term performance/ durability

Recycled Content

The EV Power Channel cover is manufactured from recycled rubber derived from end-of-life vehicle tyres, helping support more sustainable material use in public realm infrastructure.

Its distinctive tread-style surface pattern reflects this origin while also contributing to surface grip. By repurposing tyre material, the system combines environmental benefits with durability suitable for everyday pedestrian environments.

Ease of Use

The EV Power Channel is designed to be simple and intuitive for residents to operate. The lightweight flexible cover can be lifted as one continuous piece using the dedicated tool, allowing the EV charging cable to be placed quickly and easily.

Once the cable is positioned, the cover can be pressed back into place with a push-lock fit, created by tight tolerances between the channel and cover tabs. The weighted underside helps guide the cover into the correct position, ensuring it sits securely and flush within the channel.

Proven Channel Construction

The ACO EV Power Channel is manufactured using ACO’s high-strength polymer concrete, a material trusted in drainage systems across the UK for over 35 years. Designed for pavement requirments, it achives the equivalent of a C 250 kerb end and a B 125 channel load class. This robust construction ensures long-term durability in exposed urban conditions.

As the UK market leader in surface water drainage channels, ACO Technologies plc combines decades of engineering expertise with rigorous quality control. Independent external testing and strict manufacturing standards help ensure every product consistently meets the high performance levels required for public realm infrastructure.
